Fabulous Beasts 6th Season
Oshimeter
Synopsis
Tianlu and Sibuxiang — a pixiu and a creature called Sibuxiang from ancient Chinese mythology — are just trying to get through the day in modern China. Tianlu has amnesia, which would be rough for anyone, but it's especially awkward when you're a divine beast who can't remember what you're supposed to be divine about. Sibuxiang runs a shop that serves both humans and supernatural beings, and he ends up taking Tianlu under his wing while the two navigate the very mundane chaos of contemporary life. The comedy comes from watching creatures that were once revered in ancient folklore now dealing with things like... just existing around regular people. This is firmly in slice-of-life territory with a fantasy skin on top. The humor is low-key and character-driven rather than gag-heavy, which makes it easy to drop into without much commitment. The anthropomorphic character designs are genuinely charming, and there's enough lore threading through the background to reward anyone who enjoys mythology without making it feel like homework. If you enjoyed All Saints Street or Non-Human — where supernatural beings navigate ordinary life with deadpan energy — this hits a similar note. Fans of Hitori no Shita: The Outcast who appreciate Chinese folklore woven into modern settings will also feel at home here. Season six assumes you're already along for the ride, so starting from the beginning is worth it to get the full character dynamic.
