At 15 years old, Kai Kudō carries psychic abilities in a world that's deeply uncomfortable with people like him. He and his sick sister Hikaru find protection under ASHURUM, an organization that claims to be a safe haven for Espers — people gifted with extraordinary mental powers. In exchange for that protection, Kai trains with their elite military unit, AESES, sharpening his combat and psychic skills while his sister stays confined to the organization's medical wing. The problem is, Hikaru never seems to get any better, and the more Kai pays attention, the more ASHURUM starts to feel less like a sanctuary and more like a leash. When a mission drops him into the middle of a chaotic city full of people — both human and Esper — living on the margins, he starts asking harder questions about who ASHURUM is actually protecting and why. The series has that slow-burn tension of realizing the institution you trusted has its own agenda, wrapped around genuinely emotional stakes because Kai's entire reason for compliance is his sister. If you liked the psychic-power politics of Darker than Black or the morally grey organization drama of Psycho-Pass, this hits a similar nerve with a more personal, grounded emotional core.
