Even with the loud and grand entrance of a new character, the impact of it throughout this episode didn't affect the calm tone this series had known for, especially Emma's composure. William seeing in that pinch was funny, and not hiding it from Emma was brave of him. The pacing was slowed down, but how the plot was progressing was really absorbing.
