No es un inicio para todos, pero es muy sincero, desde el minuto 1 te dice que esta historia va ser cruda, sangrienta y oscura. El opening es un clásico de la animación es hermoso pero tétrico, pero al mismo tiempo transgresor como este anime.

It’s an extremely shocking and violent episode which creates a very dark atmosphere right from the beginning. It was interesting how there is brutality but at the same time it's a mystery, causing me to wonder about the people behind all the madness.

Gore Warning! Nudity warning!

INSANE START! If you're not good with blood- the first 8 minutes are a lot..nyuu
We seem to have gotten our main trio. Kouta and his cousin are such randomly nice people, and I like their dynamic.
The whiplash in this anime is crazy but plot 10/10!!

One of the most brutal first episodes in anime history. Lucy dismantles an entire facility in ten minutes, then washes ashore and can barely say a word. The whiplash between the massacre and Nyu peeing on the floor is deeply intentional. Nothing prepares you for this show.

This premiere is a brutal masterclass in contrast. It juxtaposes extreme, gore-filled violence with moments of pure vulnerability. Lucy’s escape is terrifying, yet her transformation into "Nyu" creates a haunting, tragic duality. A dark, unforgettable hook for the series.

I forgot how edgy this show starts, love the dark lore and how weirdly uncomfortable is to watch

A mysterious girl with invisible deadly arms escapes a research facility, leaving brutal destruction behind. After losing her memories, she meets Kouta and Yuka, revealing a fragile innocence beneath the violence. The episode shocks and unsettles while hinting at deep tragedy.

EPISODE CONTEXT

As episode 1 of 13, 'A Chance Encounter' is purely foundational — it introduces Lucy, Kohta, and Yuka while establishing the series' central conflict and its unflinching approach to violence and psychological horror. Every character dynamic and thematic thread the show explores across its run originates here. The next episode, 'Annihilation,' escalates the pursuit of Lucy significantly, building directly on the tension and mystery this opener locks into place.
