It felt pretty grim when the group finally reached the border and saw the effects of Lucifon's power firsthand. Seeing those villagers turned into statues was a heavy way to start the episode and I think it gave Kakeru the push he needed to stop comparing himself to Takeru and start acting like a leader for Eto and the others.

That petrification effect is such a brutal way to go out and it makes the whole quest feel much more urgent now that the kingdom is literally being turned into a garden

Watching Kakeru try to live up to Takeru is kind of a lot but he seems to be handling the pressure well enough during that first big skirmish with the eastern realm forces
