It is crazy how Vegeta just ditched the whole group the second he saw a chance to grab the Dragon Balls for himself. You can see how much he still only cares about his own immortality, even with Frieza breathing down their necks. The way Goku handled Ginyu by slowly letting out his power was just him showing exactly who is in charge.
