I still don't get the point of Old Kai dying and he just stood right back up with a halo on his head and that was the weirdest sacrifice ever

Episode Context

Positioned just 25 episodes from the series finale, this episode falls in the critical back half of the Buu Saga where Earth's strongest fighters have exhausted conventional options and must rely on unconventional power sources. The episodes preceding this have escalated Buu's threat to near-unstoppable levels, pushing characters toward desperate measures. Old Kai's involvement here sets the stage for one of the saga's defining power revelations, directly feeding into the final confrontations that close out Dragon Ball Z.
