Episode Context

Episode 223 falls in the early-to-mid portion of the Buu Saga, during the World Martial Arts Tournament arc that reunites the Z Fighters after the seven-year time skip following the Cell Games. Previous episodes have been establishing the tournament brackets, reintroducing Goku's return to Earth, and showcasing the next generation of fighters including Goten and Trunks. This episode sets the stage for Goku's highly anticipated participation, which will soon intersect with far larger threats that pull the fighters away from the tournament entirely.
