I really wasn't expecting Piccolo to be so intimidated by that new guy Shin because usually Piccolo is the one scaring everyone else with his presence. It makes the tournament feel a lot more dangerous than it looks on the surface, and seeing Trunks and Gohan messing around in that costume is the perfect comedic contrast to all the serious mystery stuff.
