That old villain Tao thought he was tough until he saw Gohan and then he literally flew away on a tree. That throwback to the original series was perfect

I usually skip filler episodes but I actually liked seeing Gohan just being a good person and helping Lime out. It makes the upcoming Cell Games feel even more important since we see what he is fighting for. Plus seeing Mercenary Tao show up and get absolutely terrified of a kid just because he looks like Goku was hilarious.

Piccolo is always finding new ways to train and his clone fight was great. He is so focused on getting ready for Cell even when the others are just hanging out

Gohan diving into the water for Lime shows his heart is exactly like his dads and he has all that power but still helps regular people in trouble

It was really funny seeing Tao again, but it's weird how they called him General instead of Mercenary. Still, seeing him run away from Gohan just because he looks like Goku was hilarious.

I thought Piccolo fighting his own clone in the time chamber was so cool and it shows how dedicated he is to catching up to the Saiyans

You can tell this is filler but Gohan being so nice to that girl was sweet and the whole thing with the fake shelter was a nice break from the constant screaming and powering up

Seeing Tao Pai Pai again was a total blast from the past. He was so terrified when he realized who Gohan was and then he just ran away like a coward on that tree log

Mercenary Tao showing up again was a massive shock and seeing him realize Gohan is the kid of the guy who absolutely destroyed him years ago was so funny

Gohan jumping in to save Lime even with the Cell Games coming up made me smile because it shows he is still just a sweet kid

The episode felt kind of slow since it was just filler but Gohan exposing that bunker scam was actually pretty cool. He does not even need to turn Super Saiyan to be a hero

The whole plot with the fake shelter was actually pretty dark for filler. It makes you realize how desperate regular people are getting with Cell on the loose and Gohan really handled those scammers well

This episode was a bit slow and felt like a distraction from the main plot but Gohan saving the village was decent. The show needs to get to the actual tournament soon

Gohan trying to chop wood with his hands like his dad used to do was great. It is rare to see him just being a normal kid in a village instead of fighting for his life

Seeing Tao return just to get scared by a kid was perfect. The way he recognized Goku in Gohan was such a great callback to the old days and the whole confrontation played out exactly right

I really wonder who that Mr Lao guy actually was, and if he really knew Goku from the original series because he seemed way too familiar with the name. This filler was actually decent since it brought back Mercenary Tao for a bit, even if he was just a total coward this time around plus Gohan was acting so mature for his age

That awkward scene with Gohan and Lime after he saved her from the water was so funny. He is definitely like his father when it comes to being totally clueless about girls

It is just filler, but I actually liked seeing a slower episode before the Cell Games start. The interaction between Gohan and Lime felt grounded and it reminds you what they are actually fighting to protect

Piccolo training against himself in the time chamber was the coolest part of this whole week. His clone technique is such a unique Namekian thing and it looks way more intense than what the Saiyans do

Gohan is such a pure soul for helping those villagers against that fake shelter scam. Watching him lead like a hero while his dad is just relaxing was a really nice touch

EPISODE CONTEXT

Sitting at episode 170 of 291, this falls in the stretch between major saga escalations — likely during the period leading up to or within the Cell saga's buildup, where Toei Animation inserted original material to pad the gap between manga-adapted episodes. As a filler episode, it has no bearing on the core narrative, so viewers tracking the main Cell saga storyline can skip this without missing any plot-critical developments.
