Episode Context

As a standalone prequel special, this sits entirely outside the main DBZ episode timeline, there is nothing before it and nothing after it within its own runtime. It functions as foundational mythology for the entire series, depicting the events that set Goku's story in motion long before he lands on Earth. Watching it enriches the emotional stakes of DBZ's core narrative, particularly any moment the Saiyan heritage or Frieza's history is invoked.
