That was a heavy start! The atmosphere is so dark, and the way Hyakkimaru fights despite having no senses is honestly incredible to watch.

MAPPA really said "we making a classic." The visuals are stunning, the tone is dark but not edgy, and the setup is clean. Dororo's a little annoying but in a "growing on you" way. [SPOILER] The whole "regain body by killing demons" premise is a cool concept overall.

Right away, Dororo feels different. Dark, quiet, and heavy. Hyakkimaru’s presence alone carries so much mystery, and Dororo’s energy balances that darkness in such a natural way. It’s intense but not overwhelming. I was hooked immediately.

The first episode is honestly heavy. It throws you straight into Hyakkimaru’s tragic origin without trying to soften it. There’s barely any emotional dialogue, just quiet suffering and violence. It sets the tone clearly: this isn’t heroic fantasy, it’s survival in a broken world.

Dororo opens with dark rituals and grim themes, instantly gripping viewers, then shifts to survival and motion, blending brutality with curiosity and making the opening unforgettable from the very start.

Within the first five minutes, you can feel the violence that sets the tone for the rest of the episode. The environment is stunning and cinematic against the bleakness. Pretty much all the characters are introduced, it gives us the oppirtunity to root for Dororo and Hyakkimaru.

EPISODE CONTEXT

As the first of twenty-four episodes, this premiere exists solely to establish the stakes, central conflict, and thematic foundation for the entire series. Lord Daigo's fateful pact and the introduction of the prosthetic-limbed protagonist set the core narrative engine in motion. Everything that follows across the season — the journey, the battles, the reckoning — traces directly back to the events seeded here.
