Episode Context

Coming off the team's confrontation with Ikuto and Jureimon, the DATS crew is pressing deeper into hostile Digimon territory en route to Merukimon's domain. This episode pumps the brakes on plot momentum to invest in Thoma's backstory, a trade that pays dividends for his arc across the back half of the season. What's established here about his psychology and his bond with Gaomon echoes in the challenges still ahead.
