Debutante Detective Corps
Oshimeter
Synopsis
At an elite high school, five obscenely wealthy girls receive a threatening video tape from someone who apparently wants them dead. The police show up to babysit them, which lasts about five minutes before the girls get bored and scheme their way into ditching their own protection detail. Then the actual danger arrives, and it turns out these debutantes are not the type to wait around for rescuing. This 1996 OVA from Daume is a single-episode romp that leans hard into the comedy of watching pampered heiresses handle a terrorist situation with more confidence than any reasonable person should have. Each girl brings her own flavor — you have the ringleader types, the reluctant participants, the quietly competent ones — and watching them bounce off each other while chaos unfolds is genuinely entertaining. The action has that loose, kinetic energy that mid-90s animation did well, and the whole thing never takes itself seriously enough to become tedious. If you have a soft spot for stuff like Burn Up W or Agent Aika — that era of action comedies built around capable women with outrageous situations and zero chill — this fits right into that pocket. It is not trying to be deep. It is a single episode about rich girls outsmarting terrorists while looking good doing it, and within those modest ambitions it mostly delivers. Good background for a Friday night when you want something light from the era.
