Death Note's premiere is a masterclass in tension. Light finding the notebook, testing it on criminals, and his first meeting with Ryuk sets up an insane cat-and-mouse game. The moral descent starts immediately. Iconic intro to one of the greatest psychological thrillers. 9.8/10.

It is actually kind of sad to see light defeated in his own game, and the one to defeat him was not L

Seeing Light cornered like that in the warehouse is still peak tension. The way the animation peaked for his final breakdown felt so raw. Watching my goat fall was rough but it was the perfect ending.

Light’s fall feels inevitable and symbolic. Stripped of control, he’s no god—just a desperate human facing the weight of his ego. That final moment leaves him suspended between what he wanted to be and what he truly was: empty, defeated, and alone.

This is everything! The way Light got defeat in his own game is just chills to watch. The pacing feels fast but tense with Ryuk shocking action towards Light. The ending is just heartbreaking and absolute chill🥶. What a perfect way to end the anime! Must watch🔥

light laughing and declaring himself the god of the new world right after being cornered is the most unhinged final power move and i respect it entirely even though bro got immediately humbled after. i wanted him to win so desperately and i am still sad that he didn't. one of the most PEAK endings i have ever watched. AND RYUK REALLY SAID LET ME HANDLE THIS AND WROTE HIS NAME THE ENDING WAS EVERYTHING NEAR KING BEHAVIOR LIGHT CRASHING OUT WAS PEAK CINEMA FOREVER

light seeing L right before he died is the most devastatingly gay thing this entire show has ever done and i am NOT okay about it at all. misa killing herself after losing everything is so sad too. i wanted him to win so badly but that ending genuinely gave me everything i needed tbh. Absolute PEAK

ryuk's closing monologue functions as a structurally perfect final framing device that returns the narrative to its original premise, a shinigami's game played purely for entertainment. the ending neither sentimentalizes the protagonist nor fully condemns him, which is the only honest resolution a story this morally complex could deliver.

A little predictable but I can't say I was disappointed.
Like Light, I also found myself missing L a lot, but Near and Mello also deserve praise for their contributions. Light going absolutely crazy and desperate was very uncomfortable but we all knew karma would catch up to him

The very last episode draws the conclusion to the story. At the end, Light was defeated in his own game of exchanging the notebook with the fake one. As promised, Ryuk was the one who wrote down Light’s name in the Death Note. Justice prevailed, where justice is needed.

That final breakdown hits hard. Light was always calm and confident, but here he’s desperate, begging just to survive. The moment he sees his past self while running really shows he realizes what he’s become. Also, Light’s voice actor absolutely nailed that scene.

We have seen — for 36 episodes — a boy become his own god. This episode shows us that he would forever be just a boy. There was no victorious ending for Death Note. There was only what happens next.

Light Yagami is finally caught and exposed as Kira, but even at the end, he still sees himself as a god, too powerful to be stopped, even as everything falls apart around him. The notebook pushed him into obsession and power, as he keeps justifying everything he has done. He sacrificed so many lives along the way, including his father and colleagues, showing he has no real attachment to anyone.

The episode is quite long and heavy on explanations, which slows the pace, but it also makes everything feel more final and detailed. Even when caught, he still tries to eliminate those around him, like he would rather die than lose. Overall, it ends with the feeling that he still believes he is Kira, almost like the story could continue with him coming back.

Now, everything comes to an end! Might be predictable or unpredictable to those who will watch depending on the built of minds. An intense yet fulfilling battle of great minds!

Death Note is one of the most interesting anime I have watched. The battle of intelligence between Light and L makes every episode exciting. The story is dark but very smart, and it keeps you thinking about what will happen next.

The finale hits hard, dramatic and full of emotion. Chaos and symbolism intertwine, leaving a lasting mark. The story closes with power, whether you agree with it or not. Animation hasn’t degraded and stayed beautifully all throughout.

This episode shatters Light’s god complex as Near exposes the notebook switch. His calm mask breaks into desperation, revealing just a frightened boy. Ryuk’s final act feels inevitable and poetic. A tragic, haunting finale that proves arrogance—not fate—was Light’s true downfall.

The end is finally here. Light's plan fails because Near switched the notebooks. Light screams and cries as he finally admits he is Kira. He tries to run, but he has no where to go. Ryuk ends it all by writing Light's name down. Absolute peak....

There was no glorious triumph, only a desperate guy dealing with the fallout from his ego. Light Yagami comes to a tragic, pitiful, and wonderful conclusion with the finale. God collapses. Ryuk has the last say, demonstrating that no human can actually control the force of death.

EPISODE CONTEXT

As the 37th and final episode, "New World" is the definitive resolution to the entire series — the culmination of every chess move, betrayal, and calculated risk that has defined Death Note. It follows directly from episode 36's tense standoff between Near, the SPK, and Light's faction, where the final confrontation was set into irreversible motion. There is nothing after this — every thread the show has woven across its run lives or dies here.
