Cyborg 009: Nemesis
Oshimeter
Synopsis
Pulled from every corner of the world, nine people from different countries are turned into cyborg super-soldiers against their will by a shadowy arms dealer organization called Black Ghost. That's already a rough deal, but it gets worse — each one has been modified with unique abilities tied to their backgrounds, and they were meant to be weapons sold to the highest bidder. Joe Shimamura, a Japanese orphan designated 009, ends up leading the group after they break free with the help of Dr. Gilmore, a defecting scientist who helped build them. Now they're on the run from the very organization that created them, trying to stop Black Ghost from engineering wars for profit. This is a fresh take on a classic manga from the 1960s that basically invented the sentai team concept before it was a thing. The new adaptation modernizes the animation while keeping the emotional core intact — these are people struggling with what they've become and whether they're still human. Each cyborg brings something different to the table, from super speed to enhanced senses, and the international cast gives it a scope that feels genuinely global rather than token. If you liked the existential weight of Casshern Sins or the cybernetic identity questions in Ghost in the Shell but want something with more of a team dynamic and action-adventure structure, this hits that sweet spot. The reimagined soundtrack even brings back the classic theme "Taga Tame ni" with a new arrangement that bridges old and new pretty naturally. Worth your time if you're into sci-fi with actual heart behind the hardware.
