The movie does a great job of just showing us the main two characters of the show but to get a better understanding of all the characters involved, you need to watch the show. Without the show seeing all these random so-called “friends” feels odd when it’s really not supposed to be. We get to who these people are and why they’re important to Tomoya and Nagisa. Overall opinion, decent movie but pacing is too slow and only three characters are fleshed out. 7.5/10 for me.

The plot of this film is an ambitious attempt to condense a massive visual novel into a 90-minute experience. Unlike the slow-burn emotional buildup of the TV series, the movie focuses heavily on the theme of "family" as a legacy, moving rapidly from Tomoya and Nagisa’s first meeting to the heavy drama of the After Story arc. Character designs by Toei Animation offer a stark contrast to the more famous KyoAni version; the eyes are smaller and the features more grounded, giving the film a distinct, slightly more "classic" anime aesthetic. Visuals shine during the dream-like sequences involving the "Illusionary World," where the use of soft gradients and experimental lighting creates a haunting, ethereal atmosphere. The soundtrack is a highlight, rearranging iconic tracks like "Mag Mell"

Clannad Movie is a heartfelt story about family, friendship, and love. A young boy learns to open his heart little by little because of the people that he meets. It is a touching anime for anyone who has ever felt stuck in pain.
