The OVA begins slowly, featuring extensive background music that is enjoyable but may cause confusion. Rapid shifts between scenes and locations can make the narrative hard to follow. It is suitable for casual viewing if time permits; otherwise, consider more structured anime fil
This OVA is pure 80s fever dream energy 💀 it legit feels like someone stitched together music videos and random English lines and called it a day. No real structure, just vibes. It’s messy af—but weirdly unforgettable in a “wtf did I just watch” way.
I felt Cipher was just okay. The football story felt a bit typical, and the radio news in Brooklyn was just jarring.
A stylish 80s anime set in New York that focuses on identity and emotion rather than action. Cipher tells a quiet, mysterious story about a charismatic student hiding a deeper secret. Atmospheric visuals and music give it a unique, nostalgic charm.
bro this ain't ur typical anime it's literally a 26-min 80s NYC MTV music video disguised as a shoujo OVA?? twin stars, identity swaps, Phil Collins & Footloose blasting nonstop. no real plot but the vibe? unmatched. niche watch but if you fw retro aesthetics it goes HARD! 🔥
I had zero expectations going in since I never read the manga, but this 1989 OVA genuinely caught me off guard. It was surprisingly progressive for something this old — like, the homoerotic tension was NOT subtle at all, and the fact that it's between siblings?? I had to take a step back for a second lmao. That said, I can't even be mad because the character art is absolutely stunning. Whoever drew these characters put their whole soul into it, they're gorgeous. It's a weird little OVA but it left an impression on me for sure.
