the mystery structure improves considerably here by grounding the central conflict in a family dynamic that carries genuine emotional stakes. the absence of any actual death changes the pacing entirely and demonstrates that the series does not always require a murder to generate meaningful dramatic tension.

the logic of bringing a high schooler and an elementary schooler to investigate instead of hiring an actual detective is completely insane and i cannot get past it. but the mystery itself was genuinely more interesting than the last one and i was actually invested in figuring out where mamoru ended up.

the actual mystery this time around was a real improvement over the last one and i was genuinely curious about how it would play out. the logic behind why ran and conan were even involved instead of kogoro still makes zero sense to me but thank god conan is not actually a grade schooler
