LOVE the premise of the story! The characters are also super quirky and fun, and all of those is paired with the amazing and absolutely phenomenal animation style!! The mix of humor and action is actually perfect, like the facial expressions the characters make is absolutely hilarious 😭🫶🏻

I really wasn't expecting something like this. I knew it was an anime depicting ancient Japanese writers, but I didn't expect it to be like this. Mystery? Powers? All of the above! One thing to highlight is that everything in the anime works wonderfully. The visual aesthetic is gorgeous, and presenting the characters with Japanese writing stencils is brilliant. The animation and backgrounds are beautiful. The humor is a bit silly, but it's not annoying.

I’ve been rewatching this one since highschool and can’t believe i’m watching it again. The animation never fails to amaze me, you need to watch the effects and details and it’s so impressive. The dramatic background music also adds effects making the scene interesting. And I think the pacing is just right, especially the introductions of the characters for the starting episode. It was kind of funny and mixed with mystery and supernatural, I’ve been hooked ever since.

Atsushi’s rough past already makes him easy to root for 💔 but the episode keeps things fun with Dazai acting absolutely ridiculous the entire time. The mix of comedy, mystery, and action works surprisingly well ✨ and Kunikida dealing with Dazai’s chaos makes every scene even better 😂

Atsushi gets reeled into the Agency after a chaotic run-in with none other than the peculiar Osamu Dazai, whose whole “casually suicidal but make it quirky” bit is wild, kinda funny, kinda concerning. The start is a bit wonky and uneven, but worth sticking around for more.

A captivating opening introduces Nakajima Atsushi, a starving orphan whose life begins to shift after meeting the eccentric Osamu Dazai, with vintage styled characters set in modern city, the episode sparks curiosity about the Armed Detective Agency and its mysterious abilities.

Episode one of Bungo Stray Dogs hooks viewers with its mix of mystery, suspense, and humor. The Armed Detective Agency’s eccentric “gifted” members shine, while the main character’s heroic instincts make him likable—even if his OP friends end up protecting him.

The opening scene feels creepy but turns into comedy. From episode one, beneath the laughs, you can sense the characters carry heartbreaking stories. “A suicidal maniac?” I think I’ll love him. And that MC revelation? Crazy!

I love the way the characters were introduced and the twist already in the first episode.

The whimsical yet mysterious introduction of the main character, which is Nakajima Atsushi, is something that caught my attention. I like how it makes me question "what's the whole story"

The plot might be slower that depict the anime, but it is good for someone like to watch first then think about it.

The plot isn’t that gripping for me, but the characters make it enjoyable.

EPISODE CONTEXT

As the series premiere of a 12-episode season, this episode carries the full weight of world-building and character introduction, establishing Atsushi's circumstances and his fateful encounter with Dazai and the Armed Detective Agency. It plants the seeds for the supernatural mystery framework that will drive the entire season. The next episode, 'A Certain Bomb,' escalates the stakes by introducing external threats that test the dynamics established here, making this a necessary foundation for everything that follows.
