"Brave Fire S0.9" depicts a future where the Earth is depleted. The story centers on a boy who discovers a girl robot. This robot possesses the unique ability to store sunlight and transform it into usable energy, rendering her independent of traditional power sources. The animation was created by Tezuka Osamu for a special animation competition sponsored by a power company. However, the project was ultimately rejected. The setting of a ravaged Earth and the robot's self-sufficiency presented a direct conflict with the power company's interests. Tezuka Osamu, fully aware of the sponsor, handled all aspects of the production, from the original story to the animation, knowing the project's inherent incompatibility with the competition's goals.
