Blue Gale Xabungle Side R
Oshimeter
Synopsis
The desert world of Zora runs on a strange law: if someone commits a crime and nobody does anything about it within three days, it's just... forgiven. That's the law. So when an outlaw murders Jiron Amos's parents, this kid has a very narrow window to get justice — and his solution is to steal a giant mecha called the Xabungle. Blue Gale Xabungle Side R is a PV from Sunrise that reimagines the classic 1982 mecha series with a fresh animation style and a surprisingly fun fusion of old-school robot action with modern idol music. The original show was always a weird outlier in the Tomino catalog — way goofier and more chaotic than its contemporaries, leaning into slapstick and Wild West energy on a desert planet. This new take keeps that spirit alive while giving the mecha designs and characters a modern visual overhaul. Jiron falls in with the Sandrats, a ragtag group of desert bandits, and the whole thing sets up a larger conflict between the ruling Innocent class and the scrappy Civilians below them. If you're into classic real robot stuff like Armored Trooper Votoms or Mobile Suit Gundam but want something with more personality and less military brooding, this lineage is worth knowing about. Fans of Aura Battler Dunbine will also recognize the Tomino DNA here. It's one episode, it's a proof of concept, and the vibe is genuinely its own thing — desert punk mecha with a sense of humor.
