Blue Exorcist: Kyoto Saga

Blue Exorcist: Kyoto Saga basically says, “Okay, forget that detour we took last season — let’s get back on track.” This time, Rin Okumura is stuck juggling the whole “half‑demon heritage” thing while trying to convince his classmates he’s not about to eat their homework. The show leans into historical lore, tactical teamwork, and enough internal angst to power a small shrine. Visually, it sharpens up with slicker animation and a heavier dose of character drama, making it feel like the franchise finally remembered what made it cool in the first place. It’s not reinventing the wheel, but it’s definitely polishing it until it shines like a cursed relic. For fans of dark supernatural shonen, it’s a solid watch — equal parts exorcisms, trust falls, and group projects that could end in explosions.

I absolutely love how they handle Mamushi's arc since she didn't escape consequence yet made a point to say that she still has people who love and care for her despite her mistake. She makes a hopeful ending without glossing over her choices. The classmates were absolutely hilarious as they began to accept the Son of Satan as their comrade. But what I love the most is the turning point of Yukio and Rin's relationship, the contrasting difference of their views and how they live their lives can either make or break their relationship, with one full of doubts while the other full of belief.

As Mephisto said, truly we've witnessed the birth of the Blue Exorcist. Another peak as we concluded one of Rin's character arc as he contemplates his identity as a demon and human. Contrasting with Yukio, who is absolutely overbearing and borderline control freak with his brother's safety that he has a harder time of accepting him as he is.

Absolute peak episode. Yukio's being a badass tactician as he cornered Todo to ashes. Suguro's cool moment as he cast barriers before entrusting his life away. Rin's conclusion of his internal conflict as he claim the purpose of his life through the bonds he managed to reconnect with others.

One of the most peak Yukio writing for this episode. Not just the competency of being a high rank exorcist, but pay off of him being such a hardass and cold on Rin from the beginning of the series and not just the season. I never liked his character much, but I appreciate the fact I can understand where he's coming from. The intense love and envy for his brother is so understandable and it was beautifully executed.

The resolution between Sugoro and his father was SO GOOD, I genuinely teared up a bit. Everything was perfectly set up for their reconciliation as well as the teen's growth. despite the fantastical context, the story resonates because it truly is a tale of a child realizing the sacrifice their parents made and come to an understanding while the parents also allowed witnessed the child growing up.

At this point of the story, Rin's setback is like giving the audiences a see-saw feeling as every growth Rin had was suddenly pushed back by another conflict even though logically, it's reasonable considering he hasn't touched the Koma Sword since his reveal as Satan's Son. However, since Rin has always been expressing bravado, to see him being vulnerable is refreshing.

This episode brings a grim reminder that preserving tradition and giving prayers need to also take account of knowledge and taking action. As well as the priority of caring about rules or people that some often misunderstand. Also, what's most heartbreaking is of course the inevitable reveal of Mamushi's misplaced trust. The horror of putting your trust on the wrong people and making choices that can never be taken back. The Karura familiar's condition in creating a contract is also one of the coolest terms I've encountered since it sacrifices relationships as payment.
