It is filler and Kariya is kind of annoying but Byakuya showing up to save the day makes it tolerable because he is just so much cooler than the Bounts
When Byakuya's Senbonzakura scattered the petals to break through that barrier, I couldn't help but wonder if his bankai is truly just about offense or if he's always been able to manipulate it like a key, too. It makes me think about all the other ways he could use it that we haven't even seen yet, which is kind of thrilling.
