Maki getting his captain killed and then just leaving because he couldn't handle the new boss was such a massive overreaction

Watching the flashback of Kenpachi taking over the squad was cool but Maki's grudge feels a bit forced to me. He seems like he just can't function without someone telling him what to do, and Kariya is clearly just using that. The fight with Ichigo looked decent although that weird shot where Maki had no nose was super distracting here

Maki having a full mental breakdown because he needs a master to follow was my favorite part of the episode

I can't believe Maki is still so obsessed with Kenpachi but it makes sense why he ran away to follow Kariya instead

Kariya just standing there watching the fight like a creepy boss while Ichigo struggles was the most interesting part for sure

Kenpachi telling Maki he was too weak to lead himself was brutal, and it really explains why he's acting as Kariya's lapdog now

If Uryu tries to go off on his own one more time after everything that happened I might actually lose my mind with this filler arc

Ichigo really spent the whole time just defending himself and it felt like he was way out of his league against that rainbow sword

Kurodo and Noba getting taken out so fast by Ichinose was pretty brutal and seeing Ririn actually get worried for them made it feel like they are becoming a real team

Seeing Maki's captain get taken out by Kenpachi explained so much about his hatred and it makes his loyalty to Kariya feel a lot more grounded than before

Ururu and Jinta jumping into the fray at the end was such a surprise, and seeing them help Yoruichi save everyone really changed the energy of that standoff.

I got chills when Kariya tried to recruit Ichigo because he actually sounded pretty convincing for a villain and he has a weirdly magnetic personality compared to the other Bounts

That new opening theme is honestly kind of weak compared to the old ones and seeing the Shinigami in those weird human clothes felt out of place for this show

It was pretty wild seeing how scary Kenpachi looks when you are not on his side and that flashback really sold the tragedy of Maki losing his way after the previous captain died and Kariya stopping everything with a finger was intimidating but Yoruichi showing up with the kids at the last second was a huge relief for Ichigo

Nijigasumi is such a flashy zanpakuto and seeing Ichigo struggle to even touch Maki while he was just dodging and defending the whole time felt really tense

Kenpachi calling out Maki for needing a leader to follow really hit me because it perfectly explains why he clings to Kariya after everything he lost

Kenpachi looked like a straight up monster from Maki's point of view, and it was cool seeing how a different person perceives his bloodlust during that captain fight.

Watching Kariya stop Ichigo with just one finger was a total power move and it really shows how much of a threat the Bounts are getting to be

I liked seeing Maki finally get some depth and his grudge against Kenpachi makes way more sense now after seeing that flashback of his captain getting wrecked

Watching Ichigo use pure instinct to dodge those sword swings was a great way to show he is learning to move like a real fighter

EPISODE CONTEXT

Following Episode 76's infiltration of Kariya's mansion to rescue Uryū, this filler episode pivots away from the rescue to flesh out Maki Ichinose's allegiance to Kariya and his vendetta against Kenpachi. It functions as a character-building bridge, laying emotional groundwork before Episode 78's promised revelations about the Gotei 13 and buried history. Skippable for those focused strictly on canon material, but it contextualizes Ichinose's role in the Bount arc's larger conflict.
