When Rukia finally apologized to Kukaku, I could almost feel the years of unspoken guilt she'd been carrying finally start to lift. Her choice to genuinely stay and mend things with her people, rather than just retreat to Earth, struck me as such a powerful commitment to confronting her past and taking responsibility for it.
