He recalls Karin's stoic refusal to show grief, her tough exterior a shield against immense pain. Ichigo vows to protect them, understanding that Karin's recent emotional distress signals a burden too heavy to bear alone.

Shrieker has Rukia cornered, mocking her helplessness. Suddenly, Yasutora 'Chad' Sado arrives, delivering a powerful punch to the invisible Hollow. He feels the solid impact but sees nothing, confused by his own strength against an unseen foe. Rukia, equally stunned, explains the existence of Hollows and recognizes Chad's unusual spiritual awareness, forming an immediate, unspoken alliance.

With Shrieker airborne, Rukia begins to direct Chad, her eyes guiding his invisible blows. Chad accepts this strange reality, trusting her sight to compensate for his own lack of spiritual vision. Under her direction, he wields a massive utility pole, striking Shrieker with enough force to send the Hollow crashing through a building. This makeshift teamwork proves surprisingly effective against their aerial adversary.

Enraged, Shrieker unleashes a swarm of explosive leeches, easily overwhelming Rukia and causing her to collapse from detonated blasts. The Hollow then focuses his sadistic attention on Chad and the caged spirit of Yuichi. Chad endures physical and psychological torment, refusing to move or fight back for fear of triggering the leeches on Yuichi's cage. Rukia watches helplessly, urging Chad to abandon her, but he remains steadfast in his protection of the boy.

Just as Rukia gathers her last vestiges of strength for a desperate stand, Ichigo Kurosaki arrives, stomping Shrieker into the pavement. He quips at Rukia about her predicament, a familiar banter easing the tension. Ichigo quickly assesses the situation, acknowledging Chad's exhausted but resolute presence. He instructs Chad to take Yuichi to safety, preparing to face the Hollow alone.

Ichigo aggressively corners Shrieker, demanding answers about Yuichi's family. The Hollow, with chilling nonchalance, recounts his past life as a serial killer. He details the murder of Yuichi's mother and his own accidental death, relishing the memory of the terror he caused. In a fit of righteous fury, Ichigo delivers a devastating blow, disintegrating Shrieker. But instead of vanishing, massive, ancient Gates of Hell emerge from the ground, intricately carved and chained. A skeletal hand reaches out, dragging the screaming Hollow into the abyss as Rukia explains their purpose. With Shrieker gone, Yuichi's soul emerges from the parakeet, a small, translucent boy. He thanks Chad, who offers a tender, heartfelt farewell, promising to never forget him. Rukia performs the Konso ritual, gently tapping Yuichi's forehead with her Zanpakuto. The boy glows with a peaceful light, dissolving into spiritual particles as he ascends to the Soul Society, finally reunited with his waiting mother.

As the dawn breaks, the heavy emotional atmosphere is abruptly shattered by the arrival of Urahara Kisuke. He launches into a series of absurd, high-energy antics, attempting to promote his shop. Ichigo and Rukia react with their usual exasperation and disbelief, finding his behavior utterly baffling. Ichigo eventually chases him off, ending the episode on a jarring but humorous note.
