Echoes of the Past
The narrative begins in the present, with Renji Abarai moving with grim purpose through the Seireitei. Kira Izuru stands before memorials, a melancholic figure reflecting on his beginnings. These quiet moments establish a pervasive sense of past events weighing heavily on the characters. The camera then cuts to Hinamori Momo in her cell, gazing at the moon, which acts as a gentle portal to earlier, more innocent times. We see a young Hinamori saying farewell to her childhood friend, Toshiro Hitsugaya, promising to call him by his proper name once she is a full Soul Reaper. Her excitement for the future is clear, a sharp contrast to her current confinement.
Paths to the Academy
Before the Academy, we witness the quiet solemnity of Kira Izuru visiting his parents' graves. His prayer is a polite, determined promise to uphold his future duties. In stark contrast, a young Renji Abarai and Rukia Kuchiki are seen in a desperate sprint through the Rukongai, late for the Academy's entrance ceremony. Their playful bickering, with Renji blaming Rukia for oversleeping, highlights their rough, sibling-like bond. They just make it through the gates, their breathless entry marking the start of their new lives.
Class One Aspirations
The Shin'ō Academy's entrance ceremony is a grand spectacle, cherry blossoms falling as thousands gather. Renji, Kira, and Hinamori find themselves in Class 1, the special class for top students. Their homeroom teacher, Gengoro Onabara, delivers a stern lecture, reminding them that elite status demands relentless training. Meanwhile, Rukia Kuchiki is shown in Class 2, a solitary figure contemplating her new life, suggesting the early divergence of paths even within the same institution.
Early Talents and Failures
In their first Hadō practice, Hinamori Momo steps forward, demonstrating innate talent. Her controlled fireball, a small but perfectly executed Shakkahō, impresses everyone. Kira Izuru follows, his Shakkahō even more powerful and precise, earning gasps of awe. Then comes Renji Abarai. His cocky attempt at Hadō 31 results in a massive, uncontrolled explosion, knocking him back and drawing laughter. The teacher's sigh is a quiet underscore to Renji's early struggles with Kido, a weak point that will persist.
Bonds Forged in Training
During a sparring session, Renji Abarai and Kira Izuru are paired. Renji fights with raw, aggressive power, while Kira employs precise, defensive maneuvers. Renji's sheer tenacity eventually wins him the match, landing a decisive blow. Despite the defeat, Kira is visibly impressed by Renji's strength, and a look of mutual respect passes between them. Later, resting under a tree, Renji admits his frustration with technical training, while Kira acknowledges Renji's physical prowess. A genuine friendship begins to form, built on their complementary strengths and shared aspirations.
The Captain's Shadow
A commotion signals the arrival of high-ranking Captains for an inspection at the Academy. Among them are Captain Sosuke Aizen and his Lieutenant, Gin Ichimaru. The students, particularly Hinamori Momo, are struck by Aizen's gentle and dignified aura. Aizen offers a kind word to Hinamori, causing her to blush, while Ichimaru follows with his unsettling smile. Later, during summer break, Hinamori gushes to Toshiro Hitsugaya about Aizen, declaring her goal to join his 5th Division. Toshiro is skeptical. We also see Renji and Rukia Kuchiki in autumn, their playful arguments hinting at a growing distance as their paths diverge.
The Field Training Begins
The students receive a briefing for their first field training exercise in the living world, led by the respected 6th-year student, Hisagi Shūhei. He explains they will hunt dummy Hollows in a controlled environment to practice combat. Renji, Kira, and Hinamori are grouped, feeling a mix of excitement and anxiety. In a deserted industrial area at night, Hisagi and other seniors establish a powerful barrier. Hisagi reminds them of the seriousness of the exercise, meant to simulate the dangers of their future duties. The students then face their first dummy Hollows, working as a confident, capable team.
Real Danger, Real Sacrifice
The training simulation quickly shatters as real, powerful Hollows break through the barrier, catching everyone by surprise. Two 6th-year students are killed almost instantly, their spiritual energy consumed by the monstrous creatures. Hisagi Shūhei is left alone, drawing his sword to defend the terrified first-years against several Huge Hollows. He desperately yells at the students to retreat, but he is quickly overwhelmed and severely wounded, blood splattering as he fights. Renji, Kira, and Hinamori watch in horror as Hisagi is nearly killed.
Desperate Stand
Defying Hisagi's orders, Renji, Kira, and Hinamori turn back to assist him. They coordinate their efforts, unleashing a combined Shakkahō attack to briefly stun the lead Hollow. Hisagi is shocked but again urges them to flee for their lives. The students refuse, standing their ground alongside the wounded senior. They prepare for a final, desperate stand, coordinating their spiritual energy for another massive blast of Shakkahō against the encroaching Hollows. More and larger Hollows emerge, and the students, their spiritual reserves dwindling, face certain death.
Aizen's Intervention
Just as the group is about to be overrun, a massive surge of spiritual pressure fills the air. Captain Aizen and Lieutenant Ichimaru arrive, moving so swiftly they are blurs. Aizen calmly steps forward, effortlessly dispatching the Hollows with graceful strokes of his sword. The immediate threat is neutralized, and the exhausted students collapse in relief. Aizen approaches them, offering words of comfort and praise for their courage. He personally checks on Hisagi's wounds and helps Hinamori to her feet. His kind eyes leave a lasting impression, solidifying Hinamori's admiration and inspiring Renji and Kira.
Present Day's Violent Aftermath
The narrative returns to the present day. Hinamori Momo has escaped her cell. Her eyes are vacant, and a faint purple aura surrounds her as she approaches the heavily guarded entrance to Central 46. When the guards attempt to stop her, she kills them without hesitation. Her movements are cold and efficient, devoid of any discernible emotion. She enters the restricted area, her true intentions remaining a dark, chilling mystery. The scene fades to black, leaving the audience with a profound sense of unease regarding her transformation.
A Moment of Levity
In the 'Shinigami Illustrated Guide' segment, Ichigo Kurosaki trains in his inner world, complaining of hunger. Zangetsu provides a jelly snack, which Ichigo enjoys. The scene then shifts to Toshiro Hitsugaya, who is being teased about his height. This provides a brief, humorous interlude, a necessary comedic break after the preceding intensity. The characters react to their situations, and the episode concludes.
EPISODE REVIEWS

Hinamori, looking completely empty as she effortlessly took down those Central 46 guards, gave me serious chills. I couldn't believe it was the same person, and it left me wondering what kind of cruel manipulation could turn someone so kind into such a terrifying weapon.

it was cool seeing how Renji and Kira started out as rivals in class one and how Renji just used brute force to win that sword match
