My brain was so ready for more Fullbringer stuff but then this weird kite episode happened and seeing Izuru lose his mind over a festival while Hisagi just chilled was kind of funny though

Byakuya being a good brother and giving Rukia his late wife's kimono is the kind of character development that makes these filler episodes worth sitting through sometimes

Rukia trying to learn her sisters dance was a nice touch for her character but the timing of this filler is terrible

The way the soul reapers all started fighting during the kite competition was pretty funny but it didn't belong in the middle of this arc

I find it so annoying that they decided to put this episode here and it totally killed the hype for the end of the arc for me and the whole segment with Renji helping Rukia with her dance was kind of sweet but it just went on for way too long and I ended up falling asleep before the kite contest even started

That kite flying contest was actually funny and seeing the soul reapers argue over something so stupid made me laugh

I really hated how they stopped the Fullbring arc just to show everyone fighting over kites in Soul Society

Seeing Hisagi and Kira try to get everyone to cooperate was the only good part, but the rest of this episode felt so boring

My mood dropped as soon as I realized this was filler because the main story was finally getting good before this New Year special ruined the momentum

The first half was funny enough with the kite disaster, but the dance practice in the second half felt way too slow and unnecessary for a special

Watching Rukia struggle with a dance when there are actual threats going on felt like a total waste of time

You can tell the studio just needed to buy time for the manga to get ahead, but the slice of life stuff in the Seireitei is usually pretty fun to watch. Kira and Hisagi trying to keep things under control while everyone else started a literal war over New Year's kites was definitely the highlight of the whole thing, and seeing the squads interact like that is great

This episode was total garbage and skipping it is the only right choice if you want to stay focused on the actual plot with Ichigo and his new powers

Seeing that weird no face guy in the ending credits was way more interesting to me than watching the squads argue over a kite festival for twenty minutes

Rukia trying to learn that ceremonial dance was kind of a drag and it almost makes you fall asleep but the interaction with Renji helped it feel a bit more grounded

I really missed seeing the Soul Society characters so this was a nice little break from the humans even if it was just a silly filler episode for New Years

The chaos with the kite flying and the different squads fighting each other was pretty hilarious and it was nice to see Kira and Hisagi getting some screen time for once

Putting a random holiday special right in the middle of the Fullbringer arc is such a bad move and it completely kills all the momentum the story had going

I actually really liked seeing Byakuya hand Rukia that kimono from Hisana because it showed a softer side of him that we rarely get to see during these serious arcs

I felt so happy watching Rukia try her best to learn that dance for Renji and I think she looked great even if that part of the show went on for too long

EPISODE CONTEXT

Sitting at episode 355 of 366, this standalone filler special lands in the gap between major Fullbringer Arc developments, offering a comedic breather with zero plot relevance. The episodes surrounding it deal with Ichigo's evolving powers and the escalating Fullbringer conflict, making this a clear intermission before the series drives toward its conclusion. Skipping directly to the next canon episode loses nothing narratively.
