Episode Context

Sitting deep in the filler Zanpakutō Unknown Tales arc, this episode follows the dramatic introduction of the Zanpakutō materializing in human form and the resulting chaos among the Soul Reapers. It builds on the rebellion's immediate fallout by zeroing in on Byakuya's enigmatic role in the conflict. The next episode escalates things further as Rukia faces her own Zanpakutō, Sode no Shirayuki, head-on.
