Learning that the Visoreds were actually captains and lieutenants who got set up by Aizen makes their whole group feel much more tragic, and seeing them escape to the human world was great

Episode Context

Episode 212 serves as the climax of the 'Turn Back the Pendulum' arc, directly following 'Betrayal! Aizen's Secret Maneuvers,' which exposed Aizen's Hollowfication experiments on Soul Reapers including Shinji Hirako. This episode resolves the flashback arc's central confrontation between Urahara and Aizen, delivering critical context for Aizen's motivations and Urahara's eventual exile. It functions as a narrative hinge, connecting the events of 100 years ago back to the present-day storyline and reframing the stakes heading into the episodes ahead.
