Episode Context

Episode 11 marks a turning point early in Bleach's sprawling 366-episode run, pivoting away from the monster-of-the-week structure that dominated the first ten episodes and introducing Uryū Ishida as a catalyst for new conflict. Coming off lighter fare, this episode plants seeds for escalating tensions and expanded lore that carry directly into 'A Gentle Right Arm' and the arcs beyond. It's an essential foundation episode, the kind that redefines the show's scope.
