Episode Context

Episode 7 reignited a conflict Dao Ma believed was behind him by reintroducing a figure from his past, and Episode 8 carries that collision directly into a confrontation, tightening the season's escort-and-pursuit thread as Chang'an draws near. As the final episode of the season, it brings the central loyalties and rivalries to a head rather than deferring resolution. There is no next episode to set up, so the weight of the season's unresolved history lands entirely here.
