Black Jack Yanen
Oshimeter
Synopsis
Scarred, unlicensed, and brilliant — the genius surgeon born from Osamu Tezuka's pen gets yanked out of his brooding dramatic roots and dropped into a full-on comedy ONA. Black Jack Yanen takes the iconic doctor and his pint-sized assistant Pinoko and just lets them loose on the most absurd medical cases you can imagine. Think less life-or-death tension, more patients showing up with ailments so ridiculous you wonder if the hospital is even real. The humor leans into parody territory, poking fun at the original manga's melodrama while keeping the core duo's dynamic intact. Pinoko still acts like she runs the place, and Black Jack still charges outrageous fees — he's just doing it in situations that make zero sense now. Studio DLE is behind this one, the same folks who thrive on short-form comedy with punchy timing. If you liked how Osomatsu-san took classic Showa-era characters and threw them into modern absurdist comedy, this is hitting a similar nerve. There's also a Gintama quality to it — that willingness to parody beloved source material without any reverence holding it back. Episodes are quick watches, so you're not committing to some marathon. You don't need to know the original Black Jack to get what's happening here, but if you do, the jokes land harder. It's a fun, low-stakes way to spend a few minutes per episode when you want something light.
