I liked seeing the actual journey to the capital because it made the distance feel real and not just a quick skip across the map. The campfire scene where they talked about the powerful mages they might fight really built up the hype for the exams, and seeing the scale of the city at the end was a great way to close things out

I think the travel scenes were a bit slow but seeing the different squads and their symbols got me excited to see which one the boys end up in, even if everyone thinks Asta has no chance. I really liked the campfire talk between them because it shows they actually respect each other despite all the constant shouting and racing back home.

EPISODE CONTEXT
Sitting between the series' opening promise — Asta and Yuno's vow to become Wizard King — and the actual Magic Knights Entrance Exam, this episode is pure transition. It closes out the Hage Village chapter of the story and repositions both protagonists for the challenges ahead in the Royal Capital. As a filler episode early in a 170-episode run, it's skippable for plot but useful for anyone wanting the full emotional runway before the exam arc kicks off.
