Despite the few interactions they have, the way Louis and Legosi seemed to be able to see through each other allows us to learn more of their depth. The way predator instinct can be a clever metaphor for puberty with fantastical twist allows a creative room for character study. Especially when the theme isn't about trying to disprove stereotype, but the argument what if the stereotype is true. It's also fun to watch Legosi's monologue because even though we can hear him, the visual of him silently troubled is hilarious.
