Solid comeback opener but heavy on recap if you just finished Crest. Good simulation battle to open, and the Jinto/Lafiel dynamic still hits, especially him being unofficial "captain morale manager." Slow burn setup, but the scale of the fleet by the end is wild. Watch and brace for a talky reintroduction.
three years is a long time and the show knows it. the reunion between Jinto and Lafiel doesn't play like a dramatic emotional scene — it's quiet, almost casual, which somehow makes it hit harder. these two people have clearly been thinking about each other across all that time and the ease with which they slot back into each other's company says more than any dramatic speech would. Lafiel as captain of the brand new assault ship Basroil is immediately compelling — she carries command naturally but you can already sense the weight of responsibility sitting differently on her than confidence did in Crest. Jinto as supply officer is a smart role for him. the world feels bigger and the stakes feel higher. a measured but confident premiere.
For a season opener, it lacks urgency, visual flair, and momentum, leaving viewers burdened with homework rather than pulled into an exciting new arc.
