BanG Dream! Ave Mujica: Prima Aurora
Oshimeter
Synopsis
After her old band CRYCHIC falls apart, Sakiko Togawa doesn't move on — she buries herself in a new identity. She becomes 'Oblivionis,' the driving force behind Ave Mujica, a gothic metal band where every member hides behind a persona named after lunar maria. Her childhood friend Mutsumi becomes 'Mortis,' and three other girls each take on their own masks — Doloris, Timoris, Amoris. On the surface it looks like a fresh start, but Sakiko isn't building something new so much as running from something old, and she's dragging everyone along with her. This movie is the BanG Dream! franchise going somewhere genuinely dark. If you liked Nana for its messy band dynamics and emotional weight, or if K-On! was your entry point into music anime but you've been craving something with actual teeth, this is worth your time. The gothic metal soundtrack alone sets it apart from basically every other music anime out there. But the real draw is the psychological side — identity, control, trauma dressed up in stage costumes and dramatic lighting. Sakiko's leadership style borders on suffocating, and the tension between what the band looks like from the outside versus what's happening internally gives the whole thing a slow-burn unease. If Love Live! is the bright side of idol-adjacent music stories, Ave Mujica is what happens when you flip that coin over and look at what's underneath.
