A guy catches a falling girl. She's weightless. Then she staples his cheek. That's the episode. You're Welcome

The visual effects are a bit lackluster—especially considering that other anime from the same era feature better effects—but the plot really hooks you.

Episode Context

As the first of fifteen episodes, 'Hitagi Crab, Part One' is the foundational entry point for the entire Monogatari franchise, establishing Araragi as the supernatural-adjacent protagonist and Senjougahara as the first of several characters whose afflictions drive the series' arc structure. This episode is the first half of a two-part opening story, with 'Hitagi Crab, Part Two' directly continuing and resolving the initial mystery while cementing the dynamic that carries through the full season. Each subsequent arc introduces a new character and supernatural case, but the tone and relationship groundwork laid here inform everything that follows.
