Attack on Titan Episode 13: Primal Desire: The Struggle for Trost, Part 9

Commander Pixis stands on Wall Rose, a silhouette against the setting sun. He outlines the Trost recovery plan, a desperate gamble for humanity's future. Eren Yeager stands beside him, resolute, but the internal tremor is clear. Pixis introduces Eren as their secret weapon, a Titan shifter. The plan, visualized for the troops, shows Eren blocking the gate, a monumental task that could finally reclaim lost land.

The signal is given. Soldiers launch into the city, an adrenaline-fueled rush mixed with the weight of past traumas. Amidst this chaos, Jean Kirschtein finds himself isolated inside a building, his gas canisters depleted. He is a coward, he admits, trapped as a small Titan bashes its head against the wall, trying to reach him. Jean leaps from the window, desperate to find working gear from a fallen comrade, a massive shadow looming over him.

From the rooftops, Connie Springer and Annie Leonhart see Jean's plight. They dive down, using their ODM gear to distract the encroaching Titans, buying Jean precious seconds. Marco Bott and other soldiers join, creating a chaotic diversion. Jean fumbles with the scavenged gear, the trigger jammed, a Titan's hand reaching for him. With a sudden hiss, the wires fire, pulling him to safety, leaving him shaking on a rooftop.

The group gathers, but the mood is grim. The boulder has not moved. Captain Ian Dietrich orders his elite squad to protect Eren's Titan form, even at the cost of their lives. Armin Arlert shouts into the nape, plunging a blade, begging Eren to remember their dream of the outside world. Soldiers draw Titans away, a dangerous lure, as Rico Brzenska watches, despair clouding her face, seeing lives wasted for a stalled plan.

Eren's consciousness drifts in a dream of his childhood home, a false peace. Armin's distant voice calls to him, questioning his desire to see the world outside the walls, speaking of ice lands and fiery fields. The comfort of the dream flickers, then shatters. Eren roars his iconic declaration, 'Because I was born into this world!' His Titan body glows green, his resolve terrifyingly clear, as his eyes snap open in reality.

The awakened Eren reaches for the immense boulder, straining, steam erupting from his Titan form. The impossible task begins. Rico and the other soldiers watch, their despair replaced by renewed hope, preparing for the escort. Eren begins his slow, plodding march towards the breach, Titans converging. Mikasa Ackerman and the elite squad fly overhead, ready to intercept any threat to the vulnerable porter.

Ian Dietrich leads the ground distraction, soldiers dying to clear the path. Mitabi Jarnach and his squad make a final stand, tragically crushed by Titans, their sacrifice a brutal necessity. Ian himself falls, catching a subordinate, dying with solemn pride as Eren nears the gate. Eren, body breaking, slams the boulder into the breach. The dust clears. The hole is sealed. Rico fires a yellow flare, screaming 'Humanity's first victory!' The city echoes with sobs and relief.

Armin and Mikasa extract a steaming, unconscious Eren from his Titan form, just as two Titans approach. A blur of green and steel, Captain Levi Ackerman arrives, cutting them down instantly. He surveys the exhausted trio with cold detachment. The gruesome cleanup begins. Jean walks through the alleys, spotting a familiar boot, then finds Marco Bott, half-eaten, propped against a wall. He can barely whisper Marco's name to the nurse. Mass cremations light the night, smoke rising from piles of bodies.

Annie Leonhart stands apart, whispering apologies to the dead, observed by Reiner Braun and Bertholdt Hoover, their own sadness detached and complex. Eren wakes in a dim dungeon cell, chained. Commander Erwin Smith and Captain Levi confront him, Erwin displaying the key to Eren's basement. They need his Titan power to reclaim Wall Maria. Levi warns Eren he will kill him if he poses a threat. Eren roars his intent to join the Survey Corps and 'kill every single Titan.' Levi, impressed, accepts him. The cell fades to black.
