An action-packed, realistic, and gritty OVA that does not ease up on the gory details, both on the characters and the planes. My only gripe would be its somewhat lackluster ending. Overall, it's a thrilling 1980s anime that fans of Ace Combat should definitely look into.

Episode Context

The finale of this three-part OVA leans into psychological tension as much as aerial action. Shin Kazama and Kim Aoba take on a dangerous intercept mission, but the real drama plays out in the atmosphere of greed and mutual suspicion festering among the mercenaries of Area 88. Expect sharp, brisk pacing with combat sequences that reinforce just how brutal and unforgiving this world is. Journalist Makoto Shinjou also moves to the foreground, his presence carrying a quiet but mounting sense of unease. The episode balances kinetic action with the kind of moral ambiguity that defines the series, men trapped in a cycle of violence, wealth-chasing, and distrust. A fitting capstone that rewards viewers invested in the characters' internal struggles as much as the dogfights.
