those backgrounds are surprisingly well done and they add a lot of atmosphere to the house scenes

the voice acting for the son feels a bit stiff but the visuals make up for it because the character models are really detailed

I have been waiting to see a Nagare Ippon adaptation for a while and the art style really lived up to the manga. The stepmother dynamic is classic but it feels different here because of the way they drew the characters. The tension in that first scene felt grounded and the coloring on everyone was beautiful.

that stepmother character is definitely the best part of the whole thing and she carries the entire first half

I really liked the art style of the stepmother and Nagare Ippon designs always look so clean on screen

that first scene with the stepmother was a really strong start and it is cool how they kept the specific style of the mangaka intact because sometimes these adaptations lose that charm but here the lines are sharp and the movements are smooth enough to keep me watching the whole thing through without any boring parts at all

it is nice to see a adaptation that actually respects the source art and the color palette they used for the house felt very cozy

the stepmother trope is used so much but the way she acts here is much more interesting than the usual stuff you see in these shorts

Watching the way they handled the transition into the second half of the episode really worked for me and it felt natural for this genre

Nagare Ippon has such a specific way of drawing faces and this studio actually managed to capture that look without it looking weird or cheap

The pacing felt a bit fast for the first half, but the animation quality really picked up once they got to the main part of the story

The lighting in the bedroom scenes caught my eye, and the voice acting for the stepmother was surprisingly good for a first episode

the art style is so clean for this kind of show and the scene with the stepmother in the bedroom actually looked better than the manga art

those close up shots of her face were actually really well drawn and the studio kept the same vibe as the original material

Seeing the stepmother character design made me happy because it is exactly what I wanted from a Nagare Ippon adaptation and her hair looks so good

that accidental injury in the gym leading to them getting close felt pretty forced and weird

the tension when the stepson starts figuring out his stepmothers secret life really caught my attention

Watching the second half felt totally different, since the stepmother story has way more drama than the first one.

EPISODE CONTEXT

As the first of two episodes, this premiere carries the full weight of introduction — there is no prior setup to lean on. Both storylines are established here from scratch, with Kyouko's thread in particular seeded for continuation in the episodes ahead. What begins here for her carries direct consequences into subsequent installments, making this a foundational chapter rather than a standalone experience.
