Akebi no Hana: Maho

After a long stretch away for work, Naoki returns home to reunite with Maho — his childhood friend turned girlfriend, the girl who cried when he left and promised to wait. On the surface, things look fine. She's warm, familiar, happy to see him. But something's off, and it doesn't take long before Naoki finds out exactly what's been happening while he was gone. This is a one-episode OVA from 2011 based on a manga, and it's a pretty raw look at what long-distance relationships can quietly do to people. The setup is straightforward — guy leaves, girl waits, guy comes back, trust gets complicated — but the emotional weight lands harder than you'd expect from something this short. It doesn't rush past the awkwardness or sanitize the fallout.
