Synopsis

All it takes is watching a classmate play tennis once, and suddenly Hiromi Oka is completely starstruck by Reika Ryuuzaki, the school's most graceful player, thinking, I want to be like her. That's it. No special talent, no hidden genius, just a 15-year-old girl who decides to chase something way out of her reach. Then the new coach, Jin Munakata, notices Hiromi's raw determination and throws her into the deep end, training her alongside the club's best players. Her seniors are not happy about it. The pressure is real, the gap in skill is obvious, and nobody is handing her anything. What keeps you watching is how genuinely earned every small step forward feels. This is a 26-episode TV series from 1973 with that warm, expressive shoujo art style, think big emotional eyes and dramatic close-ups that actually land. If you liked Attack No.1 or want something that laid the groundwork for shows like The Prince of Tennis, this is the original that helped define the sports-drama genre for girls. The romance simmers quietly underneath everything, but the heart of it is really about ambition and what it costs to want something badly enough to embarrass yourself for it. It moves slowly by modern standards, but the emotional pull is honest and it never feels padded. Give it three episodes before you decide.
