📖 SYNOPSIS

When relationships with both his teacher and classmates start piling up, things get complicated fast for one student at the center of it all. That's the premise of After... The Animation, a two-episode OVA from 2007 based on a visual novel with multiple story routes, each centering on different characters from the guy's life at school. The tone leans into drama and intimacy, with the school setting doing a lot of work to keep the tension simmering — secret meetings, unspoken feelings, and the general messiness of people wanting things they probably shouldn't. One thing that stands out immediately is the character art, handled by Tony Taka, whose clean, expressive style gives the whole thing a more polished look than you'd typically expect from something this short. If you've watched something like Bible Black or Discipline: The Record of a Crusade and appreciated when these things actually try to build some atmosphere before diving in, this hits a similar note. It's not trying to be subtle about what it is, but there's enough character groundwork laid across the two episodes that it doesn't feel completely throwaway either. At only two episodes adapted from a visual novel, it's pretty self-contained — don't expect a slow burn epic, just a focused slice of drama with a school setting and a youthful energy running through it.

✨ MUST WATCH IF...

You've played the Ciel visual novel 'After...' and want to see it animated.
Two-episode runtimes are your thing—no long commitment, just quick content.
Explicit adult romance between a student and teacher dynamic is what you're after.
You're fine with Melissa's no-frills production style and lower animation budgets.

❌ SKIP IF...

Inconsistent character proportions and off-model scenes will pull you right out.
You need actual character depth—this condenses a full VN into just two episodes.
Uneven scene pacing makes the narrative feel disjointed from start to finish.
