Driven by a desire to practice her knowledge, she arrives at the palace of the Mongols. There, she becomes a protégé of Töregene, the sixth wife of Ögedei, the second Great Khan. Töregene, a woman of considerable influence, harbors complex feelings about the empire's trajectory. The story explores the intricate political landscape of the Khan's harem, where wisdom is valued.
