The whole concept of turning into a cat just to be loved without any human drama is super relatable. The lesson about facing your problems instead of hiding behind a mask was spot on. :)
I should start by mentioning that romance isn't one of my favorite genres, so I might be a bit biased.
The concepts and the ideas are well established but the execution felt a bit poor. The last 30 minutes were rushed because they tried to introduce something entirely new when they had barely any time left.
The characters are enjoyable and can be relatable to some people, following the trope of extrovert and introvert relationship. The main characters are well written and developed during the movie, which is a great plus compared with the story as a whole.
This movie is a whole vibe, and honestly, the magical realism is gorgeous. Underneath the adorable cat antics, it’s a beautifully raw look at teenage escapism, mental health, and the desperation to find a place where you truly belong.
The anime uses colorful and vibrant visuals, to capture the dreamlike atmosphere of it's story. It gives more of a SoL vibe with it's comedy in the first half of the story, before going to the more drama side of it. It perfectly captured Muge's dilemma, "Will he love me for who I am? If I'm already loved as someone I'm not."
Overall, you should give this a go. Totally worth it.
