Synopsis
An actual curse stretching back generations ensures that the men of the Hiraga family die young — not from bad luck, but by design. After returning from America, Gen is back at his grandmother's estate, surrounded by familiar faces: a maid with psychic abilities, an American grad student obsessed with his family's history, and a teacher with secrets of her own. Everyone seems to know more about the Hiraga curse than Gen does, and the more he digs, the darker and stranger things get. Vampires and immortality are woven into the family legacy, and the show doesn't shy away from making that feel genuinely unsettling rather than campy. This four-episode OVA is a direct sequel, picking up about nine months after the first series, so you'll want to start there. The tone leans into psychological dread — it's less jump-scares and more slow creeping dread as the supernatural history of the family unravels. If you've watched End of Summer or Square of the Moon and appreciated that blend of horror atmosphere with interpersonal tension, this sits in similar territory. Phantom Hunter Miko fans who enjoy supernatural mystery with layered characters will find something familiar here too. It's a 2000 AIC production, so expectations for production values should match the era, but the writing holds up if you're into gothic family drama with a dark supernatural edge.
