Zero Sum Game

Backstage passes to a Zero Sum concert sound like a fun night out for married couple Yuuka and Yazaki — until you factor in that Yazaki's brother Keith is the lead singer, and Keith has a very complicated relationship with his sibling. What starts as a backstage visit turns into something darker and more disturbing than either of them bargained for, with the rest of the band acting on a scheme that runs deeper than it first appears. The whole thing is drenched in obsession, betrayal, and that particular kind of ugliness that comes from people who are supposed to care about each other doing genuinely awful things instead. The music industry backdrop gives it a specific texture — glamour on the surface, something rotten underneath. If you've sat through the psychological heaviness of something like Enzai: Falsely Accused or the darker corners of Dramatical Murder and you know what you're signing up for with this genre, Zero Sum Game operates in that same uncomfortable territory. It's a single OVA from 2001 adapted from manga, so it's short and doesn't overstay its welcome. This is not a feel-good watch — it's bleak, it goes to difficult places, and it doesn't really soften the edges. Go in with that expectation and you'll know whether it's your thing.
