Yakata: Kannou Kitan

Three women with no idea what's about to change for them, a wealthy estate, and an enigmatic instructor — that's the setup for Yakata: Kannou Kitan, a 2-episode OVA from PoRO based on an adult visual novel by Bishop. Akira Oogami arrives at the Zenouji estate with a single purpose: introduce the heiress Ayame and her two daughters, Miki and Ruri, to a world of sensual awakening. His loyal maid comes along for the ride, and the opulent setting gives the whole thing a kind of old-money gothic atmosphere that separates it from more generic entries in the genre. The character designs are detailed and expressive, and the animation holds up well for what it is — you can tell there was actual care put into how these scenes look and feel. The pacing in the first episode takes its time establishing who these women are before things escalate, which gives the later moments more weight than you might expect. If you've watched something like Discipline: The Record of a Crusade or Bible Black and appreciated when hentai OVAs actually try to build atmosphere and character dynamics before diving in, this one scratches that same itch. It's not trying to be anything other than what it is, but within that space it's put together well. Short commitment at two episodes, good production values, and a setting that feels distinct.
